Xubuntu

Based on the XFCE desktop environement, Xubuntu has proven itself to be the most reliable, lightweight Linux version for the desktop. These characteristics allow it to be used as a standardized installation on machines with quite different strengths (Lifetec/Medion 8800, Zotac AD-04 & previous versions used to works fine on a Pentium II with as low as 128Mb RAM). This standardization is in turn helpful to host their home directories on a NAS with central LDAP authentication.
